Kartel were delighted to take part in the Irish Premature Babies Fashion Show in The Grand Hotel Malahide on Thursday 24th February. Irish Premature Babies is a voluntary organisation set up to support and provide information for parents who have premature babies in Ireland. All proceeds from the fundraiser will help to buy life-saving equipment for 3 neonatal units in Dublin. Volunteers came from all parts of the country to strut their stuff as models on the catwalk for the night. Kartel featured a number of outfits from both our casual and golf Spring Summer 2011 collection including Coronel in bluejean, Rio Bravo in Natural, Severn in Regatta, Pitch in Sand and Cozumet in Navy. The event was a wonderful night and Kartel were delighted to support this great cause. Irish Tatler recently took their hats off to Kartel in the October edition of the magazine with an article on LPGA star, Christina Kim who competed in the 2010 Ladies Irish Open in apparel from the Kartel Elle ladies golf collection. Christina wore a number of our gorgeous ladies poloshirts and when the rain came down she was kitted out in our scrumptious vibrant fuchsia pink Nicol Ladies wetsuit. Not forgetting her trademark fashion statement – a trilby hat!!

Some very lucky members of the Kartel team got to not only meet, but actually play with star LPGA golfer, Christina Kim when they joined her Pro Am team at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale. The team had a fantastic day with the lovely Christina and it seems Christina enjoyed their company too after tweeting about having an “awesome day out there in the pro am with the wonderful chaps from Kartel!”

A couple of weeks later, we got to meet Christina again when she played at the Ladies Irish Open wearing some of our ladies golf collection including our gorgeous Nicol Ladies wetsuit. Not surprisingly, Christina who is a hugely popular and colourful character on the LPGA Tour and known for her love of fashion and unique style went for the ladies wetsuit in fabulous fuchsia pink! Her outfits were topped off by a specially made Kartel trilby!

As part of our involvement with the Irish Open this year, Kartel also teamed up with champion Irish golfer Padraig Harrington for a charity drive to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, through the Padraig Harrington Charitable Foundation. Visitors to the event were able to buy replicas of the Kartel poloshirts that Padraig wore each day while competing on the Killarney course. Padraig wore four shirts from our performance golf range. On Thursday he took to the course in style ‘Cognac,’ on Friday he wore style ‘Sawford,’ Saturday saw Padraig donning our ‘Bourbon’ poloshirt and on the last day he wore the striking ‘Scotch’ poloshirt in peppermint green. For every one of Padraig’s Irish Open poloshirts sold, we promised to donate 25% of the proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. However, if we sold 100 or more special edition shirts, we would donate 50% of the price of each shirt to the charity to help them grant the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions throughout Ireland.

Our charity drive created a huge buzz at the Kartel stand in the tented village and exceeded everyone’s expectations! We were incredibly proud to be able to donate €7,500 to Make-A-Wish Ireland through the Padraig Harrington Charitable Foundation. The generosity and support of everyone attending the event was phenomenal and we more than doubled our target of selling 100 special edition poloshirts over the course of the four days. In fact, there was so much interest and excitement surrounding the charity drive that we had almost sold out of replica poloshirts by day 2 and had to arrange a second delivery! We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that bought a replica poloshirt for their support and goodwill.

We were also delighted to be involved with helping Make-A-Wish Ireland and Padraig Harrington to grant the wish of Peter McEnery, a 14 year old from Killarney who asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant his dream of playing with his golfing hero, Padraig Harrington. Peter played as a special member of Padraig’s Pro Am team fully kitted out in professional tour player Kartel gear!

Other fantastic initiatives run throughout the weekend to raise money for the event’s charity of choice, Make-A-Wish Ireland, included an auction of caddie experiences with 3 of the top players, Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry during the Pro-Am; the sale of purple tournament caps and donations from the general public, all amounting to a tremendous grand total of almost €40,000 being raised for Make-A-Wish at the 3 Irish Open.

We were delighted to once again be appointed the Official Clothing Supplier to the 3 Irish Open by The European Tour which took place in the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, Co. Kerry over the August bank holiday weekend. As official clothing suppliers we provided branded uniforms for all of the marshals, scoreboard staff and championship staff working at the event.

For the event officials we made special one-off Irish Open jackets. The vibrant blue and green colours we used looked really striking on the course. The jackets were windproof and waterproof and had knitted inner collars and cuffs to keep the wearer lovely and snug! Although, we’re glad to report that most officials actually got to make use of the removable sleeves instead and could be seen sporting the gillet version in the sunshine for a couple of days!

A number of the Kartel team made the trip to Killarney to work on our retail unit in the tented village at the event where we sold branded merchandise. We had a fantastic week and it was wonderful to meet all of the fans who had travelled from all over Ireland, and even all over the world, to watch big names like Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell, Ross Fisher, Paul McGinley and Francesco Molinari to name but a few. After a long day’s work the team had a chance to grab a bite to eat and soak up the atmosphere of the Killarney Summerfest which was in full swing in the town. Hundreds of people thronged the town’s streets to watch street performers including magicians, puppeteers, jugglers, comedians, circus acts, samba dancers, and traditional Irish music and set dancing. Killarney definitely gets the thumbs up from the Kartel team as a fantastic place to visit for a summer break in Ireland!
